Lauretta (Laurie) A. Cathers

Dr. Cathers is an assistant professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling, College of Health Professions at Virginia Commonwealth University.  She teaches a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses including curriculum design, dissertation seminar, human growth and development and creative expressions in healing and resilience. Dr. Cathers also guest lectures across multiple health disciplines and promotes interdisciplinary health education. She has been at VCU for 20 years conducting research in HIV/AIDS and addiction. Her current research interest includes the  intersection of addiction and recovery during end of life in interprofessional care planning. Dr. Cathers continues to practice as an LMSW in Hospice Social Work.
