Douglas A. Kuperman, RRT, PhD, became a respiratory therapist in 1987. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1992. His background in respiratory therapy led him to pursue his doctoral studies in the mechanisms of asthma at The Johns Hopkins University, where he graduated in 1999. Kuperman continued his studies of asthma as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California, San Francisco, and then as an assistant professor at Northwestern University. At Northwestern, he was the principle investigator on a number of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded studies of asthma using genetically engineered mouse models. At Rush University, he is the director of the PhD in health sciences program and Chair of the department of health sciences.
